WAR DESK — Claim-split Extra. Overnight into Wednesday, 9 September 2026, Ukrainian drones hit the Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk — a major Russian outlet for oil, oil products, and grain. Two official pictures of the same overnight window: Russia’s Krasnodar governor reports a civilian death and injury toll; Ukraine’s General Staff claims strikes on the city’s naval base and a fuel terminal. Extra attributes each side. No invented names. No merged damage map. PATH /war/novorossiysk-ukraine-drones-4-dead. DESK_ID novorossiysk-ukraine-drones-4-dead.
Russian toll — Kondratyev (ATTRIB). Krasnodar region governor Veniamin Kondratyev, in a Telegram post carried by TASS and matched by Reuters, says Russian forces repelled a “massive” enemy drone attack on the region overnight and that Novorossiysk was the most targeted. Kondratyev’s toll: 4 people killed, including a child; 29 people injured, three in serious condition. Injured are receiving medical assistance. The governor offered condolences to families of the dead. No names. No invented identities. Extra does not expand “including a child” into a fabricated age, school, or street. Reuters and TASS both put the four-dead / 29-injured line on Kondratyev — the Russian official ledger for this Extra.
Kondratyev’s four dead. Kyiv’s naval base and fuel terminal. Same night. Separate labels.
Damage picture — Russian municipal / regional lines. Novorossiysk mayor Andrei Kravchenko, cited by Reuters earlier Wednesday, says drone debris fell on business premises and close to an inhabited building. Regional authorities say there were fires after the attack. Kondratyev’s broader messaging, as carried in wraps, also describes damage in Novorossiysk to civilian structures — private homes, apartment buildings, and other sites including a church and a kindergarten in accounts matching his Telegram line — and, separately, debris damage in Anapa to three private homes and a kindergarten with no injuries reported there. Extra keeps Anapa as a debris note, not a second death ledger. Russian officials frame the assault as hitting civilian objects. That is a claim, attributed to the governor and mayor — not an independent NTH Meridian finding.
Ukrainian target claims — General Staff (ATTRIB). Ukraine’s General Staff, as reported by the Kyiv Independent, says Ukrainian drones struck Russia’s Novorossiysk naval base and a fuel terminal overnight on 9 September. Fires were reported at the naval base and at the seaport’s fuel oil terminal. Damage is being assessed. The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the claim; Russia’s Defense Ministry had not publicly answered that specific target line in the Independent’s wrap. President Volodymyr Zelensky, in the same reporting chain, says a terminal used for oil shipments, facilities within the military harbor, warships, and Kalibr launchers were hit in Novorossiysk.
Ship claim kept separate. Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR) separately claims the Russian frigate Admiral Essen was burning after the strikes. That is an HUR claim, not a Kondratyev confirmation and not a sentence to fold into the Russian death toll. Ship damage is not independently confirmed here.
Why the claim-split matters. Novorossiysk is both a civilian city and a strategic Black Sea node: oil and grain exports plus Black Sea Fleet basing. Russian regional messaging stresses civilian deaths and housing damage. Ukrainian military messaging stresses naval and fuel-infrastructure hits. Those are not the same sentence. Plain English ledger: Kondratyev via TASS/Reuters = 4 dead incl. child, 29 injured (3 serious). Gen. Staff via Kyiv Independent = naval base + fuel oil terminal, fires, damage under assessment. Zelensky adds oil-shipment terminal, military harbor, warships, Kalibr launchers. HUR adds Admiral Essen fire claim. Extra does not treat Ukrainian target claims as proof that Kondratyev’s dead are military personnel, and does not treat Russian civilian-toll language as proof that naval and fuel sites were untouched.
Guardrails. Does not invent victim names or ages beyond “including a child.” Does not merge with Kyiv Darnytskyi or Starokozache Extras — separate ledgers. Does not republish wire copy as product. Does not present the 2008 port still as strike aftermath. VIDEO=no.
CLAIM vs CONFIRMED. CONFIRMED as attribution: Kondratyev via TASS/Reuters — 4 dead including a child, 29 injured, three serious; Novorossiysk most targeted; Kravchenko debris near businesses and an inhabited building; Anapa debris, no injuries; Gen. Staff via Kyiv Independent — naval base and fuel oil terminal, fires, damage under assessment; Zelensky oil terminal / military harbor / warships / Kalibr launchers; HUR Admiral Essen fire claim unlabeled as confirmation. NOT here: invented victim names or ages; a merged Kyiv–Novorossiysk–Starokozache casualty sheet. FALSE framing — do not use: “Nth Meridian confirms four dead at the naval base” or treat the 2008 still as 9 Sep 2026 fire. Nailed down, 10 September 2026, 06:30 GMT.
