The Kremlin said U.S. President Donald Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a phone call on Tuesday, 8 September, that he wanted a swift end to the war in Ukraine so U.S.–Russia ties could be fully restored. Ushakov said the two leaders discussed the weekend trip to Moscow and Kyiv by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. He said both rated the outcome “with a plus sign.” Work on that channel would continue, he said.
