The Kremlin said U.S. President Donald Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a phone call on Tuesday, 8 September, that he wanted a swift end to the war in Ukraine so U.S.–Russia ties could be fully restored. That is the Kremlin’s file. Reuters carried it. No White House quote is on this Extra.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters the call lasted one hour. He described it as constructive and frank. The desk logs the readout. It does not confirm it from Washington.

Ushakov said the two leaders discussed the weekend trip to Moscow and Kyiv by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. He said both rated the outcome “with a plus sign.” Work on that channel would continue, he said.

Ushakov said Trump emphasised ending the conflict as soon as possible, which would open prospects for a full restoration of relations. He said Putin told Trump what he believed the United States could do to help end the war. Those are Ushakov’s words, via Reuters.

The pair agreed they would stay in touch and speak again if needed, Ushakov said. He said he was not able to give more detail. This Extra carries the Kremlin readout. It does not invent a White House line.
