Britain, France and Canada announced a ban on imports from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, 8 September. Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband told the Commons the three capitals would move together. That is the file.
The measures are trade steps, not a blockade of Israel. Reuters said the hit on the broader UK–Israel trade line is likely to be small. Settlement goods are a slice. The signal is the point.
London will also move against some services tied to settlement expansion — construction, infrastructure, financing and real estate — and against advertising of settlements in Britain. UK legislation will take months, not hours.
A joint line from the governments said they oppose actions tantamount to annexation and forced displacement. They framed the step as a defence of a two-state map. Israel opposes that frame. The desk logs both.
