NEW YORK — Elena Rybakina is into the US Open semifinals, and she has locked World No. 1. The No. 2 seed beat qualifier Zheng Qinwen 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 on Wednesday, 9 September 2026 — WTA official scores page LS73992542, status Finished. Zheng took the first set. Rybakina took the next two. That board is locked. This Extra does not invent a live rankings print for an hour that has not updated.

WTA’s same-day match reaction (news/4574334, 9 Sep) is the ranking lock Extra files: reaching the semifinals secured No. 1 outright. Rybakina will officially become the 30th WTA World No. 1 in next week’s edition of the PIF WTA Rankings. Sabalenka’s 99-week stint at the top has ended. Pegula and Gauff’s wait for No. 1 continues. Extra does not invent that she is already printed as No. 1 on the live rankings board this hour — the official listing is next week. The clinch is locked; the sheet updates next week.

It was definitely a battle inside me but I’m glad that I pushed all the negative thoughts away and I kept on fighting.

US Open Tennis social named the same clinch on 9 September: Rybakina defeats Zheng 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to reach the semifinals and clinch the WTA’s top spot, as quoted in the WTA piece. Path and score only. No invented trophy forecast.

Zheng’s first set was the first Rybakina had dropped in New York this fortnight. Down 4-3 in the third, Rybakina faced a break point that would have left Zheng serving for the match. She staved it off with a net rush, then ran six points and three games to close — WTA 4574334. Match time: 2 hours 14 minutes.

WTA’s Finished sheet for LS73992542 prints the same three-set line. Featured stats at verify: Zheng 7 aces / 4 double faults; Rybakina 5 aces / 5 double faults; total points Rybakina 88 of 167 to Zheng 79 of 167. Extra invents no mid-match scripts beyond that board and the tour reaction.

It is the third time in as many 2026 meetings that Rybakina has beaten Zheng from a set down — Doha 4-6, 6-2, 7-5; Madrid 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Head-to-head is now 5-1 Rybakina (WTA). Reuters had listed the pairing first on Arthur Ashe Stadium for Wednesday (1130 ET / 1530 GMT). The WTA scores page still shows Court blank at Extra’s verify pass. Ashe colour follows the Reuters OOP lock; Extra does not invent a court bump WTA has not filled.

WTA 4574334 is clinch-hard: the SF berth secured No. 1 outright; she will officially become the 30th World No. 1 in next week’s PIF rankings; Sabalenka’s uninterrupted 99 weeks ended. First from Kazakhstan; second-oldest first-time No. 1 after Angelique Kerber in 2016, per the companion WTA feature the same day. Do not invent live-board No. 1 this hour. Clinch locked. Official listing next week.

Rybakina advances to her first US Open semifinal and fifth Slam SF overall — first season with multiple Slam semifinals. 2026 record 47-13 (WTA). Semifinal opponent LOCKED: No. 4 Coco Gauff — WTA LS73992540 Finished, Gauff d. Andreeva 2-6, 7-6(7), 6-2 (WTA news 4574376; two match points saved in the second-set tiebreak; H2H Gauff–Rybakina 1-1). Prior open-half RANGE chrome is killed on this file.

Path in, prior rounds only. Rybakina reached her first US Open quarter-final by beating Naomi Osaka 6-1, 6-4 (WTA, ESPN, Reuters). Through four rounds before Zheng she had not dropped a set. Zheng reached a third US Open quarter-final as a qualifier by beating No. 8 Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-3 after trailing 5-0 in the first set (WTA, ESPN) — the same hole she escaped against Madison Keys (1-6, 7-6(3), 7-5, ESPN). WTA called her the first qualifier into the US Open women’s last eight since Emma Raducanu in 2021.

On-court with Andrea Petkovic, from WTA 4574334 only. Rybakina: “It’s been a very difficult match. Honestly, a lot of nerves, of course. Maybe it wasn’t the highest level but I’m glad that I pushed through. It’s an early match and in my head I was complaining a little bit about the sun, the shadow, a lot of little things. It was definitely a battle inside me but I’m glad that I pushed all the negative thoughts away and I kept on fighting.” On the ranking: “It’s just a number right now. Of course, I’m in the semis, so my goal is to win the tournaments which I play. I go just match at a time. It’s an amazing achievement, but you know how quick everything can change in tennis, ranking-wise, during the match. I just need to focus on my game, try to recover and enjoy tomorrow.” No fabricated first-ball clock. No invented QF press-room speech beyond the named WTA piece.
