Russia struck Kyiv overnight into 8 September after a short halt tied to U.S. envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff leaving the capital. The pause covered the capitals while the envoys were in the city. When they left, the sky came back.

Ukrainian officials gave evolving tallies. Early city reports put at least two killed and around 10 injured. Mayor Vitali Klitschko later said three were killed. Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi said 16 were wounded in the city. The desk records the range: at least two to five killed in Kyiv and about 10–16 injured, depending on the hour and the agency. It does not pick a favourite number.

The moment the U.S. president’s peace envoys left, Putin launched another massive, horrific attack against Kyiv.

Damage ran across multiple districts: apartment blocks, a school, a clinic, warehouses, a dorm. Officials spoke of at least 14 high-rises hit. A TV newsroom was struck while staff were on air, the Committee to Protect Journalists reported.

Ukraine’s Air Force described a mixed package: ballistic and cruise missiles and attack drones. Kyiv and Odesa took the weight. Interceptor stocks are the open wound. Kyiv asked allies again for more of them.

Foreign minister Andrii Sybiha put the sequence in one line. The moment the envoys left, the strikes returned. EU ambassador Katarina Mathernova said Kyiv was exploding and burning. That is the file as of this Extra.
