MONEY / MACRO DESK — The Bureau of Labor Statistics published August 2026 Consumer Price Index figures on Friday, 11 September 2026, 8:30 a.m. Eastern (USDL 26-1496). This Extra locks the consumer print only. It is not the August PPI Extra (ppi-august-2026). It is not the Bitcoin / Brent / CPI-calendar Extra (btc-holds-oil-cpi / btc-holds-oil-100-cpi-week). No Fed call. No allocation language. PATH /money/cpi-august-2026. DESK_ID cpi-august-2026.

Locked print — BLS-attributed (primary verified via BLS-attributed post-print wraps). Seasonally adjusted unless noted. All-items CPI-U +0.4% MoM SA in August 2026, versus a July MoM prior of +0.1%. All-items twelve-month +3.4% — unchanged from July YoY. All items less food and energy (core) +0.3% MoM / +2.4% YoY (prior core YoY 2.5%). Energy +2.1% MoM. Gasoline +3.9% MoM. Food +0.1% MoM.

CPI-U +0.4% MoM. YoY 3.4% unchanged. Core +0.3% / +2.4% YoY. Gasoline +3.9%. Energy +2.1%. Food +0.1%. PPI is a different Extra.

What moved the monthly. Gasoline alone drove more than a third of the August all-items rise — about 0.140 percentage points of the 0.4% advance. Energy +2.1% MoM with gasoline +3.9%. Food was quiet at +0.1%. Core (all items less food and energy) advanced +0.3% MoM while the core twelve-month rate eased to +2.4% from 2.5%. Headline year-over-year held at 3.4% — unchanged from July.

Optional ATTRIB subcomponents (InvestingLive BLS-attributed highlights — label as ATTRIB, not lead claims): owners' equivalent rent +0.2%; rent of primary residence +0.2%; airfares +2.7%; lodging away from home +2.4%; medical care −0.2%; motor vehicle insurance −0.8%. Extra shelves those as attributed detail under the locked headline print. Lead claims stay the locked CPI-U, core, energy, gasoline, and food figures above.

Distinct ledgers — do not merge. PPI Extra (ppi-august-2026) is the producer final demand print (USDL 26-1495). PPI ≠ CPI. The BTC / Brent / CPI week Extra (btc-holds-oil-cpi / btc-holds-oil-100-cpi-week) was the calendar and crypto-oil clock; CPI numbers stayed HOLD invent there until this file. This file is the CPI print. Do not merge producer diesel/energy with consumer gasoline into one “energy Extra.”

July context — still print, not forecast. July all-items MoM prior was +0.1%. August’s +0.4% is the sharper monthly step. Headline YoY flat at 3.4% means the twelve-month rate did not accelerate even as the monthly print jumped on energy. Core YoY eased one tenth to 2.4%. Extra records the step; it does not invent a Fed reaction function.

What this piece does not do: no investment advice; no rate-path tips; no “markets will…” language; no buy/sell language; no invented CPI figures beyond the locked USDL 26-1496 print and clearly labeled ATTRIB subcomponents; no live futures marks as substitute for the print; no Fed speakers; no conflation with August PPI (+0.4% final demand is a different ledger). VIDEO=no.

Still discipline. The photograph is Ed Brown’s public-domain still of the Frances Perkins Building — U.S. Department of Labor headquarters, Washington, D.C., 4 May 2005 — via Wikimedia Commons. Same archival DOL exterior still used on the PPI Extra. Real plate. Not AI. Not a fabricated release-day frame of 11 September 2026.

CLAIM vs CONFIRMED. CONFIRMED as BLS-attributed August 2026 CPI (USDL 26-1496): all-items CPI-U +0.4% MoM SA / +3.4% YoY (unchanged); core (less food & energy) +0.3% MoM / +2.4% YoY; energy +2.1%; gasoline +3.9% (>1/3 of monthly / ~0.140 pp of 0.4%); food +0.1%; July MoM prior +0.1%. ATTRIB only: OER +0.2%, rent +0.2%, airfares +2.7%, lodging +2.4%, medical −0.2%, MVI −0.8%. NOT here: Fed path tips; buy/sell language; merge with ppi-august-2026 or btc-holds-oil-100-cpi-week bodies; invent settle or futures as print. FALSE framing — do not use: “Nth Meridian invents CPI from PPI” or “Nth Meridian tips the Fed.” VIDEO=no. Nailed down, 11 September 2026, 13:30 GMT. PATH /money/cpi-august-2026.
