WAR DESK — Claim-split Extra. Friday 18 September 2026. UK Maritime Trade Operations and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy are filing two clocks on one chokepoint. THREAD A is UKMTO: a security incident / unknown projectile / fire in the Strait of Hormuz approaches, crew reported safe, no confirmed environmental impact. THREAD B is IRGC Navy attribution via state media: Togo-flagged product tanker Trend hit and stopped after a fire during what Tehran calls an “illegal passage.” Extra attributes each ledger. It does not invent a verified merge of UKMTO’s unnamed hull with Trend, a weapon type, BDA, or a U.S. kinetic reply. PATH /war/hormuz-tanker-strike-ukmto-irgc-sep18. DESK_ID hormuz-tanker-strike-ukmto-irgc-sep18.
THREAD A — UKMTO (CONFIRMED as UKMTO-attributed wraps). Named wraps of Thursday night into Friday — The Hill, PortNews, Korea Times / IRNA carriage — carry UKMTO reporting a security incident about 16 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman, in the Strait of Hormuz. Separate UKMTO colour in The Hill wrap also describes a tanker catching fire after an “unknown projectile,” with crew safe. Extra locks crew-safe and no confirmed environmental impact as UKMTO-attributed. UKMTO did not name the vessel in the Khasab-approach warning as carried — Extra invents no Trend lock from that silence.
Two clocks. UKMTO: crew safe after projectile/fire. IRGC: Trend hit for illegal passage. Labels on. No merge.
THREAD B — IRGC CLAIM (ATTRIB only). IRGC Navy / IRNA / PortNews wraps identify the Togo-flagged product tanker Trend (IMO 9477177 in PortNews colour) as hit and stopped after a fire. Rear Adm. Ali Ozmaei is quoted saying the tanker attempted an illegal passage and “was hit and stopped after a fire broke out on it.” Iranian statements give no weapon detail, exact position, cargo, crew nationalities, injuries, or damage extent in those wraps. Extra shelves that silence as silence — not Extra’s BDA.
Why the split is the story. Khasab approaches sit on Oman’s Musandam tip at the Hormuz mouth — near THREAD B’s waterway, not a confirmed single-ship identity lock. UKMTO has not publicly branded Trend as the Warning hull in the wraps Extra is using. Folding IRGC’s named tanker into UKMTO’s unnamed incident invents a bridge the wires have not locked. Desk rule: two clocks, two labels, one Extra that refuses the cheap merge.
Traffic colour — ATTRIB, not a tip. Preliminary ship-tracking colour in PortNews / World Ports wraps puts Thursday commodity transits sharply reduced — four vessels versus a ~16 ten-day average in that colour. The strait handled roughly one-fifth of global oil and gas shipments before the current disruption, those wraps remind. Extra does not invent Brent settles, pump prices, or allocation language from that colour.
Trump / Axios frame — ATTRIBUTION ONLY on this page. Separate power/war colour from Axios via Fox / Independent / Mediaite / NY Post wraps (17 Sep) carries President Donald Trump saying he faces a “big decision” on whether to “annihilate” Iran and that “anything could happen with me.” That ledger belongs primarily to /war/trump-iran-anything-could-happen-sep18. This Hormuz Extra may cross-link it. It does not paste Trump quotes as confirmation of the tanker strike, as UKMTO BDA, or as an ordered U.S. reply.
Distinct ledgers — do not merge. Not /war/irgc-saildrone-hormuz-ukmto-khasab (Saildrone claim + UKMTO 133-26 two unnamed ships off Khasab, 10–11 Sep). Not /power/gulf-iran-salalah-hormuz-meet-mon (Gulf FMs + Araghchi Salalah meet colour). Not East-West pipeline smoke. Not Bab el-Mandeb coast Extra. Cross-link OK. Do not paste Saildrone hull 5838, Salalah meet grafs, or Trump annihilate lines into this Trend / UKMTO claim-split body as one confirmed package.
Still discipline. Hero still: archival product-tanker photograph — Oil Tanker in North Sea (ImagePerson / Wikimedia Commons, CC BY 4.0, 9 Aug 2022). Archival commercial tanker still. NOT Trend. NOT a 18 September 2026 Hormuz fire still. NOT IRGC GoPro. NOT AI. VIDEO=no on site.
CLAIM vs CONFIRMED. CONFIRMED as UKMTO-attributed wraps (The Hill / PortNews / Korea Times carriage): security incident ~16 nm NE of Khasab; crew safe; no confirmed environmental impact; unknown-projectile / fire colour in named wraps; vessel unnamed by UKMTO in those Khasab-approach lines. CONFIRMED as IRGC/IRNA ATTRIB: Togo-flagged Trend hit/stopped after fire; Ozmaei “illegal passage” line; no weapon/position/crew/injury detail in those statements. ATTRIB only (separate Extra): Trump Axios “big decision” / “annihilate” / “anything could happen.” NOT here: verified UKMTO=Trend merge; invented weapon/BDA; U.S. confirmation; oil tips; merge with Saildrone or Salalah Extras. FALSE framing — do not use: “Nth Meridian confirms IRGC hit Trend in the same UKMTO warning” or “Nth Meridian invents crew casualties.” VIDEO=no. Nailed down, 18 September 2026, 20:15 GMT.
