POWER DESK — Arrival Extra only. Russian President Vladimir Putin lands in New Delhi on Friday, 11 September 2026, ahead of an 11-member BRICS summit. Wars in the Middle East / Iran theatre and Ukraine, plus economic strain, dominate the billed agenda. Extra attributes arrival and schedule colour from named wires. It does not invent a New Delhi communiqué or fake leader quotes. PATH /power/putin-brics-india-iran-ukraine. DESK_ID putin-brics-india-iran-ukraine.
What the wires lock (arrival). Al Jazeera (staff + AFP), 11 Sep 2026: Putin arrives in the Indian capital ahead of the two-day BRICS meeting. He lands at Palam Air Force Station, greeted by India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, per footage broadcast by Russia’s Ria Novosti (Al Jazeera attribution). Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Chinese President Xi Jinping are also due for talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines.
Putin lands New Delhi. BRICS opens. Iran and Ukraine shadow the agenda. Communiqué HOLD.
The Hindu live updates, 11 Sep 2026: Putin arrives early Friday; a bilateral with Modi is expected hours after arrival (defence and related matters flagged as likely topics). Iran’s Pezeshkian and UN Secretary-General António Guterres are among leaders expected later in the day. External Affairs Ministry confirms other expected attendees including Xi, Egypt’s Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Ethiopia’s Abiy Ahmed Ali, and Indonesia’s Prabowo Subianto.
Times of India agenda wrap: summit days 12–13 September at Bharat Mandapam; India holds the 2026 BRICS chair. Extra treats detailed hour-by-hour ceremony blocks as schedule colour, not as completed events until they happen.
Shadow agenda — attributed, not scripted. Al Jazeera frames the summit as dominated by wars in the Middle East and Ukraine and by economic challenges. Expanded BRICS now includes Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE — members with sharply differing positions on the US–Israel war on Iran launched in February (Al Jazeera). Observer Research Foundation’s Harsh V Pant tells AFP the Gulf conflict will be the central fault line; expansion that looked like an achievement “today looks like a big constraint” (Al Jazeera/AFP). Capital Economics’ Shilan Shah tells AFP the Iran war will test cohesion, noting BRICS foreign ministers failed to agree a joint statement in New Delhi in May (Al Jazeera/AFP).
Pezeshkian’s trip is his first to India as Iranian president and the first Iranian presidential visit in eight years for the role (Al Jazeera). Putin last visited India in December 2025 and also met Modi in Bishkek this month (Al Jazeera). Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar visited Kyiv this month; Zelenskyy thanked India for commitment to ending “this unjust war” (Al Jazeera attribution). Extra carries those attributed lines only — no invented Modi–Putin readout. For Xi, Al Jazeera notes a first India visit since 2019 and a cautious thaw after the 2020 Himalayan clash — context for the summit fringe, not a finished bilateral Extra.
What this Extra does not do. HOLD any New Delhi Declaration text until an official release exists. HOLD invented quotes from Putin, Modi, Pezeshkian, Xi or Guterres beyond named wire attributions already printed. HOLD invented defence-deal numbers or oil-volume pledges from Friday bilaterals until primary readouts land. Does not merge into separate Ukraine battlefield or Hormuz shipping Extras.
